Teaching Facilities

There are two large lecture theatres, a large teaching laboratory that is divided in to three areas and two seminar rooms in the Zoology Department all with a good range of equipment.  Please see the list below for further details.  The lecture theatres and seminar rooms have a hearing loop installed.  All teaching facilities are Lapwing wireless hotspots.

Main Lecture Theatre

Use: mainly 1st and 2nd year lectures and special events/conferences
Capacity: 250
Location: Ground Floor by the main entrance

Part II Lecture Theatre

Use: mainly 3rd year lectures, seminars and meetings.
Capacity: 40
Location:
First floor, up the stairs past reception

Elementary Laboratory

Location: Ground Floor

  • Short wing:space for 50 students to work with the following equipment:
    • wireless microphone
    • Desktop PC (running Windows)
    • visualiser
    • DVD/VHS player
    • TV screens
    • possibility to connect a laptop to the audio and visual system
    • whiteboard
    • the image from a Leica dissecting microscope can be displayed on the TV screens on request
    • HP colour laser printer
  • Long wing:space for 130 students to work with the following equipment:
    • wireless microphone
    • visualiser
    • VHS player
    • TV screens
    • possibility to connect a laptop to the audio and visual system
    • whiteboard
    • set of 11 PCs (Windows XP) and a HP colour laser printer available
  • CDB wing:space for 50 students to work with the following equipment:
    • wireless microphone visualiser
    • VHS player
    • TV screens
    • PC
    • possibility to connect a laptop to the audio and visual system
    • whiteboard
    • the image from a Leica dissecting microscope can be displayed on the TV screens on request

 

All benches are equipped with:

  • water taps and sinks;
  • CO2, gas and compressed air taps
  • power sockets

Seminar Rooms

Capacity: Basement 23 ; First Floor 18
Location: First Floor Seminar - Room 11 (swipe card holder access only)
Basement Conference - (swipe card holder access only)

  • Equipment available:
  • 32" Samsung Plasma TV with laptop connections (both)
  • OHP (both)
  • Data projector (both)
  • White Board (Basement)
  • Flip Chart (First floor)

The basement seminar room is not available for supervisions.

Museum Dem Room/Gallery

Contact: Mathew Lowe
Use: Mainly Pt II practical sessions with some lectures. Supervisions can be conducted anywhere in the museum galleries. The Museum Gallery is often used for Poster Sessions.
Capacity: 40-50 students on Dem Room. Poster sessions in the museum can comfortably accommodate 120-150 people.
Location: Dem room is located on the lower floor of the museum, next to the lift exit.

Museum specimens are studied in practicals.
