Undergraduate resources

Exam papers

A collection of past examination papers are kept in the Library Office. These are for reference use in the library only, but may be photocopied. You must sign on the pink card inside the envelope on the side of the folder before you remove from it from the Library Office. These may also be available to download from your course's CamTools site.

Critical review and analysis examples

Examples of Part II Zoology and Part II Neuroscience critical reviews and analyses across different topics are available for reference use in the Library Office. You must sign on the pink card inside the envelope on the side of the folder for any critical reviews or analyses you remove from it. They may only be consulted in the library and cannot be photocopied.

Project and dissertation examples

Examples of Part II Zoology and Part II Neuroscience projects across different topics are available for reference use in the Library Office. Examples of Part II BBS dissertations are also available. You must sign on the pink card inside the envelope on the side of the folder for any critical reviews you remove from it. They may only be consulted in the library and cannot be photocopied.

Folders of recommended reading

Lecturers sometimes photocopy journal articles or book chapters for their students to read or photocopy. They are stored in folders under the lecturer's surname.

Part 1B folders are kept in a filing cabinet in the library. There is also a collection of Part II Zoology and Part II Neuroscience folders in the Library Office. They are kept here because if they go missing they are perhaps harder or impossible to locate in another library, or they belong to the lecturer personally.

All items in folders are treated like Overnight Loan items, so they can only be consulted in the library until 4:00pm (Monday to Thursday) and can be borrowed overnight until 11:00am each day. Any items borrowed on a Friday after 3:30pm or over the weekend must be returned by 11:00am the following Monday. You must sign on the pink card inside the envelope on the side of the folder for any items you remove from it before leaving the Library Office. Please sign them back in afterwards by writing the date on the card. This makes it clear to other readers where the items are at any one time.

Because the Library Office is inaccessible to students out of hours there is a duplicate set of all the folders in a filing cabinet in the Computing Room on the Second Floor of the Department, next to the photocopiers. They can be used in the same way as described above. If anything is missing from these folders please contact the relevant lecturer directly to request a replacement.

Library guides

Guides to the Balfour Library for undergraduate students are available to download, either from the Library Guides page, or from the Balfour (Zoology) Library Information section of your course's CamTools site, as well as the Balfour (Zoology) Library Guide to Electronic Information Resources. There are also hard copies for reference in and to take away from the library.

Also on CamTools you will find links to the library website and blog, which you can sign up to or simply read for the latest library news on new services and resources.
