A paper lead by Gates Cambridge Scholar Andres Alfonso-Rojas published this week in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, the has attracted widespread press attention.

Andres, who is a PhD student here in the Vertebrate Palaeontology Group, studied 12 million year old anaconda fossils, to find they have been giants for over 12 million years.  In contrast, many other prehistoric giant animals became extinct as a result of changes in global climate.
