Emilio Luz-Ricca

I am a PhD student in the Conservation Science Group (Zoology) and Energy and Environment Group (Computer Science); I am part of the larger AI for Environmental Risks (AI4ER) Centre for Doctoral Training with funding from the Cambridge Centre for Carbon Credits (4C). My research focuses on the uses of predictive modeling in supporting biodiversity conservation, with an emphasis on quantifying species-specific responses to anthropogenic threats like hunting and agriculture. I am also part of the team that develops the LIFE biodiversity metric, which estimates the effects that different land-cover changes will have on the extinction risk across most terrestrial vertebrate species. I am supervised by Andrew Balmford, with co-supervision from Anil Madhavapeddy and Tom Swinfield.

Previously, I received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Data Science with a minor in Math from William & Mary and Master of Research (MRes) in Environmental Data Science from Cambridge.
