Dr Rosie Trevelyan MBE, Director of the Cambridge office of the Tropical Biology Association (TBA) at the CCI, has won the Frankfurt Conservation Award (Bruno H. Schubert Prize) 2025 for outstanding achievements in teaching related to nature and environmental protection. The award citation recognises her dedicated teaching, her ability to network internationally, and her tireless commitment to capacity building in regions of high biodiversity with far-reaching impacts on global conservation.
Dr Trevelyan said of the award, ‘I am hugely honoured to be receiving this award. It is all due to the Tropical Biology Association’s brilliant staff in the UK and Africa, all our teachers, and our 3,000+ alumni who are having such important impacts in conservation and training the next generations to leave the world in a better place.
As a small NGO, gaining this kind of recognition is a great morale boost as well as giving us credibility and helps us raise our profile.’
Since its establishment in 1993, the TBA has been closely linked with the Department. As its leader, Dr Trevelyan has been hugely important in building a strong, cross-border network of conservation experts who implement concrete projects to protect biodiversity in their home countries, giving people the skills and confidence they need to manage natural resources in tropical regions effectively and sustainably. In 2024, Dr Trevelyan was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to Environmental Science and International Conservation.
