Department of Zoology

The winner of this year’s Janet Moore Prize for supervising in Zoology is Benno Simmons.  Benno received his award from Dr Nick Mundy, Deputy Head of Department (Teaching), at last night’s annual Part II Zoology party.

The prize is awarded on the basis of nominations from Zoology students and module organisers. Benno, who was a supervisor for the Conservation Science module (M2), was described by one student as: “Genuinely the best supervisor I have had for the entirety of my degree so far.”  Other students nominated him for his excellent feedback on essays, his clear enthusiasm for the subject, as well as preparation of well-structured and information laden handouts.

Finally, one grateful student told us: “To top it off he was a lovely guy and I even looked forward to his supervisions!”

Benno is just completing his second year as a PhD student in the Conservation Science Group.  He is the fourth winner of the Janet Moore Prize, which is awarded to non-UTO supervisors in Part II Zoology.

Previous winners were:

2015       Emma Garnett and Rick Thompson

2016       Jenny York

2017       Benno Simmons
