Department of Zoology

We are delighted to announce that the Zoological Society of London has awarded two prizes to people in our department.

Dr Claire Spottiswoode has been awarded the Scientific Medal 2017 for research scientists with up to 15 years postdoctoral experience for distinguished work in Zoology.

Claire is well-known to all of us in Zoology, not only as a brilliant field experimentalist, but also as an inspiring role model for young women in science, marrying a passion for science with exploration of remote parts of wild Africa.

Simon Chen has been awarded the Charles Darwin and Marsh Prize 2017, for an outstanding zoological research project by an undergraduate attending a university in the UK.

Both examiners of his final year project gave it the highest mark possible – a rarity!

They have both been invited to attend the award ceremony in June when full citations will be issued.

Many congratulations to them both.
