Biography

My work focuses on how managed honeybees and wild bees share landscapes in Cambridgeshire, using novel methods to track bumblebee colony metrics in different landscapes. I am interested in how to measure effects of environmental stressors on bumblebee colony and queen fitness, as well as niche overlap between different bee species.

I have a background in beekeeping and environmental science. I hold a BSc in Liberal Arts and Sciences (Global Challenges: Sustainability) from Leiden University College the Hague (2016) and an Erasmus Mundus double MSc in Sustainable Forest and Nature Management from Bangor University and the University of Copenhagen (2018). Prior to commencing my PhD research I worked at UNEP-WCMC and TRAFFIC on the topic of sustainable use of species, particularly focusing on international conventions on the international trade of endangered species and its implementation in the European Union.

Alongside my research I work in science communication and youth advocacy. I work as the News in Brief editor for the BBKA News, the monthly print newsletter for the British Beekeepers' Association, and I am the co-founder of Pollinator Ambassadors, an association working for youth empowerment in the environmental sector.
