Biography

I obtained a DVM from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University in 2018. I then worked as an assistant researcher on wildlife physiology and reproduction at Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense. Some of the projects I was involved in were the study of reproductive behaviour of Javan slow loris (Nycticebus javanicus), assisted reproductive technology in Javan leopard (Panthera pardus melas), reintroduction of Javan porcupine (Hystrix javanica), and mammal mapping in several national parks in Java.

In 2020, I continued my Master's studies at the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba with a full scholarship from the Indonesian government (LPDP). I joined Asano's lab and conducted cellulomolecular research on male Gallus gallus gamete cells, where I was also helping as teaching and research assistant in several projects related to physicochemical properties post-cryopreservation and liquid storage, NKA/sodium-potassium pump and its interaction with osmolarity, and Src-family kinase (SFK) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) role upon acrosome reaction. Besides, I also did a PG Certification in Nature Conservation in which I had the opportunity to visit some remarkable conservation sites in Japan, such as Ogasawara Islands, Mount Hakusan Biosphere Reserve, and Japanese black bear (Ursus thibetanus japonicus) management in Karuizawa, as well as learning about UN convention frameworks (UNFCCC, CBD) from the experts.

After completing my MSc in 2022, I worked as a researcher at Research Center for Applied Zoology, National Research and Innovation Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BRIN). I was involved in the assisted reproductive technology project for the ex-situ propagation of soro carp (Tor soro) and Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops aduncus). I was then re-awarded the same scholarship for doctoral study and became a PhD student since Michaelmas 2023 in Weil's group, University of Cambridge.

Currently a member of the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI) and the Indonesian Research Association (PPI). Recipient of Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform (JASTIP) scientist exchange grant from Kyoto University in 2019. Volunteered in the management and curation of specimens at the Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense. Also experienced as a BSL-3 lab officer for SARS-CoV-2 virus detection from suspected patients in March-September 2020.

Research

My background makes me curious in bridging veterinary and human medicine, especially in the field of genomics and molecular biology, to explore possible solutions to tackle various problems; from fertility to incurable diseases.

While I studied male gametes during my Masters, my PhD is focusing on oocytes and embryos, more specifically on mRNA regulation post-fertilisation in Drosophila by utilizing genetic engineering and molecular imaging. I believe interspecies approach will benefit us for many novel findings in physiology or medicine in the future.
