The Department is sorry to announce the death of John Johnson on 26th September 2019. John joined the Department at the age of 16 in 1961 as a junior technician. The knowledge he gained from his time as a technician allowed him to move into purchasing and procurement. By the time he left the Department, in 2005, he was the Chief Purchasing Clerk.
Many current members of the department have happy memories of working with him, largely because of his great professionalism and never a cross word said.
He retired early to concentrate on the other things he loved doing, such as playing golf and refereeing football matches. He also took several trips to America to referee soccer matches. He was also an enthusiastic Park Runner and despite failing health undertook his 100 run last year, with the aid of a walking stick, at Milton Country Park. A memorial park run was held in his honour on 28th September 2019.
