Conservation science applies scientific methods to the challenge of maintaining and restoring global biodiversity and ecosystem services. It aims to understand patterns of biodiversity and ecosystem change, pressures that are driving loss or degradation, and what the most effective and efficient responses are, at every scale from local land management to international convention.
The Conservation Science Group is located in the new David Attenborough Building, along with staff from the Departments of Plant Sciences, Geography and Land Economy, and a number of locally based international Non-Governmental Organisations, as part of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative.
The Conservation Science group runs the annual Student Conference on Conservation Science (SCCS).
