I earned my B.A. in Biological Sciences from Oxford University, where I became interested in questions of early vertebrate evolution. Now I am pursuing my PhD in the Gillis lab, which studies the embryonic development of cartilaginous fishes (sharks, skates, rays and holocephalans), in order to better understand the origin and early evolution of vertebrates.
I am using a candidate gene approach combined with comparative transcriptomics to investigate axial patterning mechanisms of the jaw, gill arch and paired fin skeleton of a cartilaginous fish, the little skate (Leucoraja erinacea).
