Department of Zoology

 

Tim Whitmore Zoology Fund

The Department of Zoology has received from Mrs Wendy Whitmore a donation in memory of her late husband, Dr Tim Whitmore. A similar donation was also given to the Department of Geography.

The income of the Fund shall be used at the discretion of the Managers to support the training of postgraduate Students in the Department of Zoology, particularly those from developing countries, working in conservation science or in the sustainable use of biological resources.

Your application should include:

  • a research proposal (1 x A4 page max)
  • A brief outline of the risk assessments/ethical approval involved and current state of these approval(s)
  • a brief curriculum vitae
  • a breakdown of total costs, and the amount you are applying for. (Please indicate if you are applying for any other funding for this project).
  • one academic reference (Supervisor).

Applicants are advised that the annual income at the disposal of fund managers is around £2,000.

Please note that awards from this fund will be contingent on approval of appropriate risk assessments (and Leave to Work Away where applicable). Please discuss your application with your supervisor prior to submission.

From the Statutes and Ordinances of the University of Cambridge

The Department of Zoology is greatly indebted to Mrs Wendy Whitmore for giving a generous donation in memory of her late husband, Dr Tim Whitmore. A similar donation was also given to the Department of Geography.

  1. The Managers of the Tim Whitmore Zoology Fund shall be the Head of the Department of Zoology and two of the University officers in the Department of Zoology who shall be appointed by the Head of the Department in the Michaelmas Term to serve for two years from 1 January following their appointment.
  2. The income of the Fund shall be used at the discretion of the Managers to support the training of Graduate Students in the Department of Zoology, particularly those from developing countries, working in conservation science or in the sustainable use of biological resources.
  3. Any unexpended income of the Fund in a financial year shall be accumulated for use as income in future years.
